Drag, Norway

Welcome to the Arctic, a place where stunning nature meets vibrant industry, and work-life balance isn't just a buzzword

It makes us proud that we can contribute from this little location here in Northern Norway

Discover the good life

Our northernmost location is surrounded by awe-inspiring landscapes where mountains and sea collide. Hamarøy municipality covers over 2,000 square kilometers of mountains, coastline, forests, and farms, all the way from the sea to the Swedish border. Drag is the second-largest village in this vast municipality, with the administrative center of Oppeid just a half-hour drive away. If you hear the call of the wild or are looking for the simple life, this little town nestled along the Tysfjorden could be for you.

Combine learning with adventure

An appreciation of nature starts early here. The nearby Knut Hamsun High School in Oppeid is one of Norway's only high schools for students pursuing an education in outdoor studies. For the little ones, Drag School will spark their sense of adventure: In grades one to four, students spend one day a week outside, rain or shine. And from fourth grade, they go on overnight camping trips - pretty cool, right? If you’re pursing higher education, the Arctic University of Norway in Narvik and Nord University in Bodø offer a range of degrees and study programs, from associates to advanced degrees.

Summer, 24 hours a day

In the summer months, you don't have to hit the pause button on the fun just because it's getting late. In the land of the midnight sun, this is the season to explore the turquoise waters of Hamarøy's coastline by kayak, bike along roads weaving through some of Norway's most varied terrain, fish in a serene lake, go camping (Norway's "Freedom to Roam law" allows you to pitch your tent almost anywhere in the wilderness), or hike along one of the numerous marked trails maintained by the trekking association. Drag has jaw-dropping scenery that's perfect for year-round exploration.

Winter: Embrace the chill

Winter sports enthusiasts, listen up: The ski resort in Narvik boasts Scandinavia's second-highest fall height, with 15 runs propelling you from mountain top to sea. The cross-country trails at Ulvsvågskaret offer a more low-key way to enjoy the winter wonderland. And for a truly magical experience, why not try dog sledding? Glide through the snowy landscape under the majesty of the Northern Lights.

Fun and games

What if the weather isn't on your side? No worries. Hamarøy has plenty to keep you entertained indoors, too. Take a dip in one of the indoor swimming pools, test your limits on one of the tallest climbing walls in Northern Norway, or join your colleagues for a game of field hockey. And don't forget about cultural and culinary experiences. Tranøy's lighthouse (where you can even spend the night) is home to a fantastic art gallery and amazing local food, all with breathtaking panoramic views of the Lofoten Wall. The Hamsun Center hosts literary events, and Drag is home to the Lulesamisk cultural center.

We might not be a big city, but we're a one-of-a-kind place to call home
