The QUARTZ Corp is a key supplier of High Purity Quartz Sand for the solar, semiconductor, and fibre optic markets. Our quartz is sourced in Spruce Pine, North Carolina, where the unique geology offers the world’s highest purity quartz deposits. From there, our products are shipped to Drag, Norway, where our state-of-the-art production facility enables us to produce quartz which is 99.998% SiO2.
The QUARTZ Corp was formed in 2011 through a joint venture between IMERYS and NORSK MINERAL. The company operates internationally, with teams in North America, Europe, and Asia. With our culturally and geographically diverse workforce, we are able to provide excellent customer service globally. Find out more here.
Our product starts life in a small, 3.9 square mile town in the Appalachian Mountains, 780m above sea level. Thanks to its unique geological history, the world’s purest quartz deposits can be found in this mountainous region.

From the wooded mountains in the American South, our mined and sized quartz sand travels to the breath-taking fjords of Northern Norway. The QUARTZ Corp’s state-of-the-art processing facility, located in Drag, Norway, has a long pedigree of quartz sand processing.

The Quartz Corp has >10 million tonnes of High Purity Quartz resources in Spruce Pine.
The Quartz Corp uses rod mills to crush the mined quartz sand, and screens, allowing us to precisely size the material to a variety of different PSDs.
Flotation is the first key purification step our quartz goes through, and uses chemicals and air to remove traces of non-quartz impurities such as feldspar mining from the mine.
The Quartz Corp uses strong acids to remove any remaining surface inclusions and impurities in the quartz grains. In a typical leaching process, specially selected solvents are added to selectively dissolve inclusions without harming the desired final product.
Heating the quartz grains to high temperatures in The Quartz Corp’s state-of-the-art calcination tubes helps to remove any residual organic contaminants and improve the final quality of the glass made with the sand.
Speciality magnetic separation is employed by The Quartz Corp to ensure precise chemistry of the final product.
All shipments of The Quartz Corp’s high quality quartz are tested and given an individual certificate of analysis, meaning customers can be assured they receive consistent product every day.
The Quartz Corp's highest purity product goes through a high temperature chlorination step, which makes the material ultra-high purity for use in the highest tech markets.
We move our products globally, either directly to customer sites or strategically placed stores.
